Classic 3-Tier Web App — AWS Architecture Template
ALB-fronted web and app tiers on EC2 with RDS persistence and Redis caching inside a VPC.
Why this architecture works
- Separating web and app tiers limits blast radius and lets each tier scale independently
- ElastiCache absorbs read-heavy traffic so RDS stays sized for writes, not cache misses
- Database credentials live in Secrets Manager, never in AMIs or environment files
- ALB health checks plus CloudWatch alarms detect unhealthy instances before users do
